Finally listened. I was hesitant because the acoustic clips he had on his socials made me go GOD NOT AGAIN but...that fucker. The song is mesmerizing, made me cry, etc.

The singles so far have gotten a lot of eighties comparisons, but Winner and now this scream mid-late-seventies. I could see Elton John releasing a song like Alley Rose back then.

Yeah the acoustic version and this are completely different vibes, both are great though if you can find a full version definitely listen because he sounds SO good, and you can really feel it.

But this definitely has early Elton vibes for sure, I love it. It feels a little like Memories if it were written in the late 70s. And so I'm 22 so idk maybe I don't know what I'm talking about lmaoo BUT the songs definitely FEEL like actual songs from the 70s/80s rather than modernized versions of the 70s/80s which people had been doing before. I feel like it might be why some people aren't getting it (though as far as I've seen everyone has liked this song in particular). But he clearly put SO MUCH into this song, one of his best written songs imo and he has solo writing credits on it so without any producers help.

I was born in '85 so I wasn't really conscious of the actual 1970s/1980s vibes, but I do listen to a lot of music from those decades. The double vocal tracking and the guitars in Winner SCREAM earlier Zeppelin to me. Then he goes straight '80s with Killing Me and Lonely Dancers. Modern lusciousness is in the mix too and I think it's a strength. It keeps the music fresh and forward.

All in all I do like how he's experimenting with sounds and textures. It also deserves a lot of praise that he seems to be making these choices himself, instead of being pushed into this sound or that. His songs all definitely feel like our concept of him. He has a very strong identity and I love that for him and for us.
